Canon Solutions America Device Cleaning Guide

As the situation with COVID-19 (known as the coronavirus) rapidly develops, Canon Solutions America looks to safeguard its valued customers and associates by equipping them with proper instructions on how to proactively and efficiently maintain device(s) with these cleaning procedures.

While nothing is guaranteed, this succinct process will help in mitigating potential risks associated with the virus.

The directions below are in relation to all Canon printers, presses, and multifunction devices in an effort to properly support your machine(s).

• Please be sure to wear protective disposable rubber or nitrile gloves during the cleaning of any equipment to protect skin and avoid contamination. It’s critical to avoid touching your face, eyes, and environmental surfaces (door handles, keyboards, etc.) while wearing gloves and sanitizing device(s).
• Prior to cleaning your device(s), please ensure the machine is powered down. In addition, confirm the AC power and device cord(s) are disconnected before beginning the process.
• All areas of the device(s) that come into human contact should be cleaned, including control panels, covers, jam locations, etc., with the use of isopropyl alcohol. It is critical to note that this agent is a flammable chemical compound, so please handle with care and only use within a highly ventilated area.
• Note that while 99.9% isopropyl alcohol was initially recommended, a solution of 70%+ isopropyl alcohol can be used.
• Do not spray the cleaning agent directly onto the device(s). Instead, spray the cleaning agent onto a lint-free cloth/rag, and then wipe surfaces as needed. Utilize glass cleaner, with a lint-free cloth, only on the platen glass surface of the device(s), wiping in a single direction to avoid possible damage.
• While lightly wiping the areas of the device(s) with the isopropyl alcohol-based cloth, ensure no moisture enters inside gaps or buttons within the device(s) Re-apply the alcohol to the cloth as needed to ensure proper distribution of the cleaning agent.
• Once completed, wait until surfaces are dry before powering the device(s) on and re-connecting AC power cords into outlet. Dispose of your gloves appropriately into a lined container, then wash your hands. It is important that you do not resuse disposable gloves once they have been removed.

Proper Steps to Removing Disposable Gloves

• Following cleaning, please adhere to these steps to properly remove disposable gloves:
  1. Pinch and hold the outside of the glove near the wrist areas.
  2. Peel downwards, away from the wrist, turning the glove inside out.
  3. Pull the glove away until it is removed from the hand, and hold the inside-out glove with the gloved hand.
  4. With your now bare hand, slide your finger(s) under the wrist of the gloved hand, taking care not to touch the outside of the glove.
  5. Again, peel downwards, away from the wrist, turning the glove inside out.
  6. Continue to pull the glove down and over the inside-out glove being held in your gloved hand.

This will ensure that both gloves are inside out with one glove enveloped inside the other, ensuring no contaminant touches your bare hands.
